Autumn meeting, October 2019

2019 AUTUMN MEETING & Annual General Meeting

The Park Hotel, Barnstaple

11–13 October 2019

'Pigeons and Peregrines'

This year's Autumn Meeting is based around the early nature stories featuring peregrine falcons to be found in The Peregrine's Saga, first published in 1923, and HW's last book, The Scandaroon, published in 1972; book ends, as it were, to his distinguished writing career.

We meet on Friday evening for dinner, after which there will be an illustrated talk: 'The War the Air: a look at HW's last book, The Scandaroon', given by Anne Williamson.

On Saturday morning there will be a walk around Barnstaple, looking at the locations described in The Scandaroon and other points of note, followed by lunch at Georgeham Village Hall. In the afternoon there will be a walk on Baggy Point, one of HW's favourite spots. The illustrated talk after dinner will be 'A Saga of Peregrines' given by Richard Williamson.

The Society's AGM will be held on Sunday morning, followed by the laying of a wreath on HW's grave at Georgeham parish church.

A PDF of the full programme is available here. Attending members are asked to complete and return the Registration Form.

Discounted rates to members of the Henry Williamson Society are offered by the Park Hotel. Click here for full details and prices.
