Autumn meeting, October 2018

2018 AUTUMN MEETING & Annual General Meeting

The Park Hotel, Barnstaple

5–7 October 2018

11 November 2018 will be the 100th anniversary of the ending of the First World War,

so it is appropriate that we should refelect on and mark that momentous event in our AGM this year. The focus will be HW's essay 'Reflections on the Death of a Field Marshal' (FM Earl Haig), which arose out of HW's response to the film Oh! What a Lovely War, and which he read to an enthusiastic audience in the magnificent church at Hartland on 1 August 1972 as part of that year's Hartland Festival.

On Friday evening Anne Williamson will give a short illustrated talk on the background of the essay, ably assisted as usual by Richard.

There will be a coach visit to Hartland Quay and Abbey on Saturday, while in the evening there will be a presentation by Will and Janet Harris.

The Annual General Meeting of the Society will take place on Sunday morning, followed by the laying of a wreath at HW's grave in Georgeham.
