The Dream of Fair Women is the third of the Willie Maddison novels in The Flax of Dream tetralogy; the other three being The Beautiful Years (1921), Dandelion Days (1922) and The Pathway (1928). The first UK edition of the book bears the sub-title A Tale of Youth after the Great War, but this is not repeated in the US edition. This first US edition, which, according to HW, has 'a few additions unauthorised, & punctuation', was the first of his books to be published in America (and it was in New York six years later that he re-wrote it, the heavily revised edition being published in 1931).
