The Henry Williamson Society

The writer Henry Williamson was born in London in 1895.   Naturalist, soldier, journalist, farmer, motor enthusiast and author of over 50 books, his descriptions of nature and the First World War have been highly praised for their accuracy.  He is best known as the author of "Tarka the Otter", which won the Hawthornden Prize for Literature in 1928 and was filmed in 1977.  By one of those extraordinary coincidences, Henry Williamson died as the crew were actually filming the death scene of Tarka.   Here you can explore the man, his life, and his place in English Literature and history. For best results, view this site in Microsoft Internet Explorer.
The website has now been updated, and includes a new Bookshop feature to order online books and publications produced by the Society. The next feature to be added in 2008 will be downloadable articles from back issues of the HWS Journal.
