The Henry Williamson Society

Schools Writing Competition 2008

Title: 'The Calm Before The Storm'.

Title; The Calm before the Storm.

Henry Williamson wrote extensively about the First World War, as well as his nature writings, and you will see by the sources his meaning of the calm before the storm.

The judges do not want you to copy his style of writing, as we want you to develop your own, but the judges want to see strong evidence of the competitors having read the sources. We also want to see evidence of the contrasting themes within your writing.

Writing Task.

Write a 500 word essay, extended poem, or in the form of a letter, using the theme “the calm before the storm”

Please read the page of source material: the Judges do not wish you to imitate the style of Henry Williamson, but rather to develop your own style.
